2023 Spencerville ARBA Show

Wrapping up the best in show judging in the dark

Despite of being only a couple weeks before convention, this turned out to be a big show. Over 400 rabbits competed, four judges judged, and we were there till dark.

The English Angoras had a very nice showing. We had a few people interested in the breed and showing who came out to watch and help out. We had a ton of fun. Despite of it being a busy day, all of the judges were very generous with their explanations for what they were seeing and answered our questions. I'm so happy to see that we are growing a nice little community of friendly and kind hearted exhibitors in this breed.

Show A English all lined up

For English Angoras, I brought two colored senior girls, Electric Zero Hour (Black) and her sister Electric Zanzibar (Lilac). Both sisters haven't shown since the Rockton show where they were just little babies. Good ol' Mr. Bermah Maurice joined us (in his 4th coat at this point) to help fill classes. We had a total of 11 animals on the table shown by 6 exhibitors, with the majority of them (7) being senior colored girls. We also had two Sr white boys and two Sr white girls.

Show A was judged by Dana Bramble from NJ. Under her, the top 3 colored Sr girls were all Electric rabbits which was nice to see. Zero got 1st place and also won BOB, Zanzibar came in 2nd, and 3rd was their half sister Elenor now owned by Laura. Maurice ended up beating his nephew Presley handled by Julie and took home the BOSB win.

Show B was judged by Bill Bramble from NJ. He moved through the bottom 5 placements for colored girls with certainty but picking the winner turned into quite the battle. He debated back and forth, closed his eyes, was about to make the call then changed his mind and debated again. It was quite the process but he explained in detail his thoughts and what he was or wasn't seeing in the animals which ended up being very educational for all of us watching. Ultimately he ended up picking Julie's black girl (#233) for 1st place with Zero taking 2nd place, Julie's blue girl (#234) taking 3rd, and Zanzibar taking 4th. Presley took home BOSB.

Show C was judged by the highly entertaining Jodi Hartman from NY. Under her, in the colored does class Zero took 1st place again, with Zanzibar 2nd, and Julie's Black #233 being 3rd. However the breed win ended up going to Presley!

In the Satin Angoras competition we had a total of 11 animals on the table being shown by myself, Shannon, and Solveil. This included only one Sr buck (Electric Biscuit, Chocolate Chin), 3 Sr does (including Electric Bonanza, Chin), 4 Jr bucks (including Electric George, Choc Tort), and 3 Jr does (including Electric Arakis, Choc Agouti, and Electric Argentina, Red)

Show A was won by our Jr buck Electric George and BOSB went to our Sr Chinchilla doe, Electric Bonanza. Judge Dana also noted that this was one of the nicest groups of SAs she has seen.

Show B was won by Bonanza, with George taking BOSB.

Show C was won by Bonanza, this time with her brother Electric Biscuit taking BOSB.
