2023 ARBA Rockton Show

The Rockton show put on every year by the Southern Ontario Rabbit Breeders Association club is the Ontario ARBA season opener. Just as it was last year, it is a great show to attend and quite busy with 3 main open shows, multiple specialty shows, and a fun youth show for the kids.

We started the day off with a wonderful surprise! A beautiful personalized award lovingly made and presented by Beth Collins for winning the Ontario points sweepstakes for English Angoras for 2022!

Judging the shows were Maddie Pratt from MI for Show A, Tom Schweikart from PA for Show B, John Richter from ON for Show C, and Mark Stewartson from ON for the Angora Specialty. We had a total of 17 English Angoras shown by 4 exhibitors: myself, Laura Hamilton, Mary Grillo, and Julie Martin.

In the White class, we had quite the exciting battle of the BerMah kids (Josee Maher's rabbitry). I brought my Sr buck from Josee, BerMah Maurice, while Mary brought her Sr buck from Josee, BerMah Misty. I brought two Jrs out of our girl Bonnie (bred by Amy Jones) and Maurice: Electric Unity and her brother Electric Uncle Buck. Unity had to compete as a Sr doe as she was over the weight limit for Jrs. Mary brought her 3 Jrs out of BerMah MyMy (littermate sister to Maurice) and BerMah Misty: a doe named Precilla and two of her brothers, Presley and Elvis. All 5 Jrs were around 5mo old. The only two other oddballs competing in the White class were Bonnie who was 3yrs old and came out to get registered, and our super star buck from last year, Electric Iroc.

Our entries in the Colored class were a 17wk old boy named Electric Xerxes, and two 12wk old girls Electric Zero and Electric Zanzibar.

Competing at this show we also had our new to us New Zealands which came from Dave Hauser in Indiana. A Sr buck named CC, a Sr doe named PAT, and her sister PET who now lives with Paige from Hop and Wag. There were only two other NZs competing so the competition was shockingly small for the breed.

Winning Show A BOB was PAT with Paige's Sr buck Gardsmere's B2 taking opposite.
Winning Show B BOB was PET with B2 taking opposite.
Winning Show C BOB was CC with PAT taking opposite.

Afterwards PAT had a date with B2 and PET had a date with CC. We are hoping for some beautiful NZ babies to be born in a month!

As always it was a super fun day filled with lots and lots of rabbit talk between rabbit friends.
