2023 DRCBA Spring Show

Our first rabbit show of this season in Ontario was held by the Dominion club just outside of Barrie this weekend. Around 200 rabbits competed and it was a very fun show with some great competitions to watch. I spent most of the day clerking for judge John Richter. If you want to learn more about the different rabbit breeds and how they are judged, this is the best seat in the house to do that!

Competition for best doe and litter. This involves teams of one doe and three of her babies competing with each other for over all quality and uniformity.

Our English Angoras stayed home but I did bring our two young French Angoras: Electric Trucker Boy, a Black buck, and his Chestnut sister Electric Tatiana. Both were technically Juniors as they are still under 6mo old but because they were both over the Jr weight limit, they had to compete as Seniors. Their only competition were two other Sr girls handled by Julie Martin. A stunning 8mo old REW and an older Chestnut. The REW girl rightfully won both shows with Trucker Boy coming in 2nd.

Truck pictured the day after the show. Because the concept of taking pics of my own rabbits at the actual show has not yet fully materialized in my head as a thing to do.

The DRCBA shows pick winners and runners up slightly differently than ARBA shows. In ARBA shows, the top rabbit is picked for each group and the runner up is always picked of opposite gender to the winner. At DRCBA shows there is no distinction made between genders for the final breed and show competitions so the runner up is picked on overall quality regardless of gender.

Tatiana the day after the show. Little bits of her baby coat still hanging on near the bottom.

Trucker is still mostly holding on to his original coat though he has started blowing it. Tatiana started blowing her coat few weeks ago and I did end up finally having to pluck out her top layer, sadly 3wks before the show. She did get dinged for having an uneven coat. On a brighter side though, a new layer of her adult coat is starting to come in.

Both Truck and Tatiana will be available as we are bowing out of French Angoras, at least for now.

Our Black Havana buck, Colucci's Heb got 2nd place for Black Bucks in Show A, and Reserve of Variety as well as Reserve of Breed in Show B. Now if we could just get some babies out of him, we would be even happier!
